I love, love campaign planning committees.
I always use them with every capital campaign I’ve advised.
And they always yield amazing new connections, relationships and assistance — from the people who matter.
They are my secret tool to get the right people involved early on.
Campaign Planning Committees Get You the Connections You Need
Many times, a wonderful organization as a big vision, but doesn’t have the connections with community leaders and deep pockets that it needs to succeed in raising big money.
That’s why a planning committee is such a smart move.
I discovered the concept when I read Andrea’s book on Capital Campaign Strategies That Work back in the 80’s. I was a new, very green fundraiser in a big job with little experience. (Whew.)
I found her book and I clutched on to it for dear life! It gave me a clear roadmap on where to go and HOW to get there.
What I liked most was her understanding of all the subtleties of major gift fundraising and recruiting big time leadership. It’s a delicate art of egos, timing and careful listening.
You’ll like her advice too!
